Down Once More
Well, the old Oklahoma shopping experience took another hit today. I went to Saks to exchange a couple of cosmetic items that I purchased during "free gift" time (and ended up not needing) for some cool new line summer items that are just out and WHAM! No Stila counter. Now I know that Saks likes to play with their customers...move things around so you look all lost and confused when you walk in and are consequently at the mercy of the sales staff to reorient yourself (ironically "ReOrient" is part of the spring Stila collection), so I asked where the Stila counter had been moved to. Answer: Saks got rid of Stila because it "wasn't doing very well." All the Saks stores. No Stila ANYWHERE in Oklahoma. So Saks has now gotten rid of the Philosophy line (because Philosophy went to QVC where, by the way, it has become a household name and made a killing) and now Stila joins it in terms of MIA Oklahoma distribution. I can sort of see how Stila might not excel in Saks, though. It is more of a "youthful" line than, say, Estee Lauder or La Mer (at $150 a jar, you have to be old to afford it!). The clientele of Saks are, shall we say, older. Because young people, for the most part, just can't afford to shop there...I mean, come on...$180 for a white t-shirt is steep if you're working your way up the corporate ladder. To follow this line of thinking, people who shop at Saks are probably 30+ years old (yes, there are exceptions Paris). If Stila is marketing to a 20-something crowd, their target market and their Saks location do not match up. Nevertheless, it is just ONE MORE THING that I cannot get in a brick-and-mortar store in Oklahoma.
For those of you still needing your Stila fix (they took my return by the way, although it took four salespeople and fifteen minutes to figure out HOW or WHETHER they would), you can visit Gloss.com, Stila, or Sephora.

Hey darling, I really like your blog, esp since it's so totally related to shopping. And you actually seem to know your brands and I really admire people who shop in Saks, so I'll definately save your blog.
Err, on the other hand, I was just wondering, where the heck is Oklahoma?
Apparently even the Parises of the world don't even shop in Saks. They're always showing Kitson in LA. I think it's a glorified plug for Kitson.
Harrods, Oklahoma is somewhere which appears to coexist as the middle of the country yet, simultaneously, the end of the earth. Funny that. We have NO shopping! But we visited Manhattan earlier this year, so I got a temporary "fix" until I can get to NY on a permanent basis (when hubby finishes his Ph.D.). I am a handbag/cosmetic/label junkie...so stop by whenever! I love to hear from other fashion obsessed people.
Oh, and why do you admire people who shop in Saks?
Rachel, I am not all that impressed with Kitson. They have some cute bags, but they have teeny-bopper stuff like Tweety shirts and t-shirts that say "I'll have your baby, Brad"...nothing TOO great (although they DID have some Kooba bags). It's really a Hollywood thing.
Hey, haha, it's just a thing. I 'admire', ie. v jealous, of people who shop in places like Saks, Barneys and Neiman Marcus in general. They've got gorgeous stuff if you pick right.
You poor girl! You certainly are sacrificing a lot to be with your husband living in the middle of no where. I have never (not counting the time I was seven) lived anywhere but the city before, whether it be Hong Kong or London. And even in the city, I insist on living right in the middle of it. It's where all the shopping happens! Are there really no where to shop where you live?
Well, we are just outside of Tulsa which, for Oklahoma, is a big city. Tulsa is home to the largest mall in the four-state area, but I am not really a "mall rat" kind of girl. Abercrombie is not my thing. Saks is the only "high end" store here, and even at that it is a tiny Saks (about 1/20 the size of the one in Manhattan). There is a Miss Jackson's, but that is just a snooty store full of furs and immigrant manicurists, so I don't go there much. There is no New York City-type shopping here, but I have lived here for a long time, so I am used to it. We are planning to move when my husband finishes his Ph.D., and we did visit Manhattan earlier this year, so I was able to shop at Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman and the REAL Saks (and FAO Schwarz toy store). But for now I do most of my shopping online. The problem is that a lot of high end designers (Chloe, etc.) don't have an online presence, so I have to figure out which boutiques carry which items and then call them and have them e-mail me photos and so on. Hopefully only four more years... and if you find any great things in London or HK, let me know! (We have actually thought about living in London, but the quarantine on pets moving from the States to Europe is, I believe, six months, so we don't want to do that right now.)
I didn't say I was impressed with Kitson, just that there are a hella lot of photos of people in US Weekly and People online walking out of there.
Just giving you my two cents...whether you want it or not (as always)! Kitson recently did the Tweety promotion, that's why all of those photos are out right now. One of the Nickys (either Hilton or the other one) even took her yellow Balenciaga bag to match Tweety. I guess no one told her that matchy-matchy is out.
So someone mentioned that I should clarify the "immigrant manicurists" comment...I mean that it is quite tacky that a store with racks of $5,000 garments elects to take advantage of immigrant workers just to save a buck. This is how the rich stay rich or keep getting richer...they take advantage of people who are less fortunate and exploit whoever they can.
Hi, you have a great blog here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you!
I just viewed your blog/site with the keyword **handbag** and really
